BananaRoad.com is a small company located in beautiful Athens, Ohio, the home of Ohio University. One of Athens’ longest-running businesses, BananaRoad has been a member of the local economy for three decades. Beginning in 1979, owner Tony Santone relocated to Athens from Columbus, Ohio to start a record store. Over the next 25 years that store, Schoolkids Music, would contribute greatly to the “culture of cool” that is unique to the college scene in Athens. The nation-wide decline of the retail music business coupled with the changing landscape of collegiate cultural trends led Tony to focus more on posters and t-shirts as a way to reach his clientele. With the rise of the internet and the unrivaled market access provided it, Schoolkids Music eventually gave way to BananaRoad.com and posters became the order of the day. Today, BananaRoad sells products to customers in nearly every country on the globe – from Canada’s Northwest Territories to South Africa!
